Hundreds gather to kick off ‘Stamp Out Hunger’

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The nation’s largest single day food drive kicked off Thursday.

Stamp Out Hunger is put on by the nation’s letter carriers.

It’s designed to fill food pantries and help fight hunger in local neighborhoods across the country.

24-Hour News 8’s Lori Wilson emceed the event in Indianapolis today.

The postal workers ask that people leave non-perishable food items in or next to their mailboxes on Saturday.

When mail is delivered, they’ll pick up the food and take it to food banks such as Gleaners.

Last year, the drive collected about 71 million pounds of food across the country.
