ISP arrests 2 after finding 329 pills, 140 syringes during traffic stop

PUTNAM COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) – Indiana State Police arrested two people for multiple drug-related charges after a routine traffic stop.

Around 2 p.m. Thursday, an Indiana State Police officer stopped a car on I-70 WB near mile marker 46.

According to the release, the officer detected criminal activity in talking with the driver and passenger of the vehicle.

After a search of the vehicle, the officer found methamphetamine, glass pipes with methamphetamine residue, 329 counterfeit prescription drug pills, 140 syringes, digital scales, assorted drug paraphernalia and plastic bags.

Both the driver, 59-year-old Alfred Hoffman, and the passenger, 32-year-old Phillip Penrod are being held in the Putnam County Jail.

They are being held on the following preliminary charges:

  • Dealing in Counterfeit Substance
  • Possession of Contraband Legend Drugs
  • Possession of Methamphetamine
  • Possession of Paraphernalia
  • Possession of Syringes
