Michigan teen makes ‘pigs fly’ in one-of-a-kind promposal

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) – Two Lansing Everett High School friends experienced a prom to remember after their “promposal” went viral on the Internet.

“’I’ll ask you to prom when pigs fly,” that’s what one Everett High School student said to her friend back in February.

On Friday night, it turned out to be one unforgettable prom.

It’s that time of year again when thousands of students across the country put out all the stops for high school prom.

But here in mid-Michigan prom has taken on a different meaning.

That’s after one Everett High School senior won the hearts of millions across the nation with how she asked her friend to accompany her on this special night.

Here’s how it all unfolded.

Back in February during a school pep rally, senior Vee Nguyen told her friend Ben Davis, a sophomore who suffers from a rare genetic disorder, that she’d ask him to her senior prom when pigs fly.

Then Vee surprised everyone including Ben as she made flying pigs a reality for her elaborate “promposal.”

Which brings us to Everett’s High School prom.

It’s the day both Vee and Ben have been waiting months for.

“It just makes me happy to see him happy,” said Nguyen.

It was a magical evening at the Lansing Center as Everett High School students Vee Nguyen and Ben Davis danced the night away.

It’s an once in a lifetime experience Vee could have shared with anyone her senior year, but decided to spend it with Ben.

“I know Ben doesn’t go out a lot and stuff so having him to like be here tonight is really important to me,” said Nguyen.

But the fun didn’t just start at prom. It began hours earlier as the two ‘glammed up’ in anticipation ahead of the big night.

“I just want him to have fun, that’s pretty much it,” said Nguyen.

And as they met to take the traditional before prom photos on the banks of the Grand River.

“You look nice. Look what I got you,” said Nguyen.

And for Ben, the evening ahead was nothing short of pure excitement.

“He always gives a thumbs up, that’s a big yes,” said Ben’s father.

And while prom may just be one night out of the year, Vee hopes her actions will spread an inspirational message about kindness and friendship throughout the walls of Everett High School and beyond.

“To me it is the key to everything. to success to happiness, to a good life without kindness, I just feel like it loses that meaning of life,” said Nguyen.
