Greenwood releases list of $21.3 million in capital, road construction projects

GREENWOOD, Ind. (WISH) – The City of Greenwood released a list of $21.3 million in capital and road construction projects for this year.

“We have a city that is healthy and growing, and we must work proactively to continue that trajectory,” said Myers. “We must manage our resources to invest in the areas of need that matter most to Greenwood families and businesses.”

The projects include:

  • Public Safety
  • Four new police patrol vehicles
  • Replacement of Fire Department Rescue 91 vehicle
  • Replacement of Fire Department Engine 93 vehicle
  • Emergency vehicle preemption technology installed in 37 traffic signals

    Infrastructure

  • Conversion of four-way stop to traffic signal at Main Street and Graham Road
  • Fry Road and SR 135 intersection improvements
  • Sewer relining, extensions and replacements
  • Economic Development
  • Taxiway rehabilitation at Greenwood Municipal Airport
  • Drainage and stormwater infrastructure improvements at Greenwood Municipal Airport
  • Purchase of downtown Greenwood Middle School property for future development
  • Façade improvements for downtown revitalization (Main Street and Madison Street)
  • Greenwood Community Center remodel (first phase); facility to reopen in December 2016
  • Freedom Springs Aquatic Park equipment and improvements
  • New multi-use trail construction and connections
  • New playground equipment at City Center Park

Greenwood is also planning $2.25 million in pavement mill and overlay work on the following streets:

  • Beechview Dr. Main St. US 31
  • Colmery Dr. Kimbrough Dr. Millridge Dr.
  • Greenwood St. Main St. Euclid Ave.
  • Hudson Bay Dr. Monticello Dr. New Amsterdam Dr.
  • Industrial Dr. Stop 18 Rd. Central Nine Career Center
  • Meridian St. Rail Crossing County Line Rd.
  • Meridian Parke Dr. SR 135 East Dead End
  • Millridge Dr. Stop 18 Rd. Colmery Dr.
  • Sanner Dr. Millridge Dr. Colmery Dr.
  • Timber Creek Ln. County Line Rd. South Cul-de-Sac
  • Camby St. Madison Ave. Brewer Pl.
  • Stillwater Ln. Shady Creek Dr. Greenbriar Dr.
  • Carr St. US 31 Wooddale Terr.
  • Stonegate Dr. SR 135 East Dead End
  • Marlin Dr. Eau Claire Dr. Meridian Parke Dr.
  • Euclid Ave. US 31 Madison Ave.
  • Lincoln St. Market Plaza West End

There are no road closures planned for these projects, but there may be lane restrictions at times.

“We learned a lot with the increased amount of construction in the city last summer,” said Mark Richards, city engineer for Greenwood. “The feedback on completed projects has been very positive. This summer, we will be more proactive with construction-related communication so Greenwood citizens and commuters are fully informed and can plan ahead.”

The city will also be doing $672,000 in reconstruction work on Graham Road between Allen and Collins roads, and Collins Road between Allen and Worthsville roads. There will be road closures at times.

The road construction projects are expected to begin in June and be completed within 90 days.
