Greiner’s employee nearly crushed by SUV home from hospital

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A woman critically injured on the job when an SUV crashed through a local sub shop is finally resting at home.

Tina Scruggs had been an employee at Greiner’s Sub Shop for 31 years. That Friday morning, February 12, she was prepping for the shop to open when an SUV crashed through the store trapping her under rubble. She was taken to the hospital with critical injuries hanging on to life.

On a GoFundMe page set up by her work family, Greiner’s owner Lisa Moyer posted an update Monday morning. In it, Moyer explains that Scruggs is back home but with certain challenges.

Moyer says Scruggs had more than 17 surgeries adding up to more than $1.4 million in medical bills. She says Scruggs is in a wheelchair, she has no use of her right arm, her left leg is healing from skin grafts, she has a stomach band from internal injuries and a lot of physical therapy lies ahead.

Scruggs’ husband, Rick, made their home wheelchair accessible and as Moyer writes, created a “life style conducive to Tina’s physical challenges.”

Moyer says she and her Greiner’s team are hoping to re-open the restaurant in early July. Moyer’s wish had been for Scruggs to be the guest of honor and she says it’s looking more and more like that will be able to happen.

Police say 41-year old Deana Shumaker intentionally drove her SUV into the shop that day nearly killing Scruggs.

The GoFundMe page set up for Scruggs has raised about $4,500 of its $17,000 goal. Click here to donate.
