Colts use last year as extra motivation this offseason

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – After a mediocre 8-8 year in 2015, the Colts have had a little extra motivation this offseason.

“We kind of like to think of it as we’ve been invigorated,” said linebacker Robert Mathis. “Reinvigorated. New energy, new expectations. Everybody is kind of riding high right now. We just have to put it all together.”

“Last year was just a tough one. I guess teams go through that you know?” said long snapper Matt Overton. “Hopefully we don’t go through that again anytime soon. But, we learned a lot about ourselves too you know? And it’s unfortunate when your star quarterback goes down, but we had a lot of guys step up, and again speaks to the volumes of our character of this team, our coaching staff and the grit of the team.”

“We’re a close knit group and we hold each other accountable, and I mean that’s what it takes to be a good football team,” said cornerback Vontae Davis.

The Colts had high attendance at every voluntary workout this off-season, setting a cultural standard for not only the team, but for the rookies.

“You have to be so detailed in everything that you do,” said rookie wide receiver Danny Anthrop. “The things that they teach you in college and the things they tell you have to do, sometimes you can get away with, but here you can’t. You have to be crisp in everything you do.”

“Just keep getting better. Obviously just getting all the calls down. Just really reinstall everything that we’ve done before,” said center Ryan Kelly, the team’s first round draft pick. “We obviously have a four or five week break in between now and real camp. Just harness everything in, and get some positive momentum going into the next few weeks.”

This week marks the last time the team works out together before training camp starts in July. And the team hopes the work they’ve put in this offseason translates positively over to the fall.
