2 charged in death of Lafayette 8-month-old child

TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) – Two people are charged after the death of an 8-month-old child.

Twenty-six-year-old Chad Giroux Jr. and 21-year-old Makenzie Shultz, both of Lafayette, have been charged in the injury and death of their dependent, according to police. They have also been charged with failure to report a dead body, obstruction of justice, false informing and perjury.

Lafayette police said the investigation began in November 2015 when officers were called to St. Elizabeth East in reference to a child who was pronounced dead.

With assistance from the Tippecanoe County Prosecutor’s Office, the Department of Child Services and the Tippecanoe County Coroner’s Office, Giroux Jr. and Shultz were arrested Thursday and both were taken to the Tippecanoe County Jail.

The case was presented to a Tippecanoe County grand jury and the subjects were arrested and presented with a total of 17 charges between the two of them.
