2 residents escape fully engulfed east side house fire

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A home on the city’s east side was quickly engulfed by flames and two men were able to make it out alive, according to the Indianapolis Fire Department.

IFD said the fire broke out around 10:50 a.m. in the 300 block of South Randolph Street. When IFD arrived the home was fully engulfed by the flames.

A resident told firefighters that he was sleeping upstairs when he woke up to the smell of smoke in the home. When he went to the first floor he found heavy fire. The resident alerted the other occupant in the home and they both were able to escape with their pitbull named buddy.

The residents are not sure how the fire started. Damage was estimated at $50,000.
