Man arrested for OWI after driving off road, striking utility pole

JOHNSON COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) – A man was arrested on Thursday for drinking and driving.

Police said they were sent to the area of County Road 200 West and County Road 600 North after receiving reports a vehicle ran off the road and struck a utility police.

When officers arrived on scene, they said Ivis Robinette was trying to exit the passenger side of the vehicle. They said he was able to exit the vehicle by pulling himself out. They said when he got out of the vehicle, he took one step and fell face first to the ground. He remained in the same position for a few minutes until medics assisted. Robinette tried to stand again but was unstable, so police said medics had him sit on the cot.

Robinette told police no one else was in the vehicle.

When asked what happened, he said he had been at a birthday and drank three beers. He said he remembers texting his friend and running off the road, but he doesn’t remember anything else.

Robinette was transported to a hospital to be checked out. Police said at the hospital he agreed to submit blood to officers for a toxicology test.

Police said after he was cleared by the hospital, he was arrested and transported to the Johnson County Jail.
