Photo: Children pray for safety of IMPD dad, other officers

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department shared an emotional photo online in the wake of recent officer shootings.

The poignant picture shows two children dressed as police officers kneeling in prayer next to an IMPD car. It was shared hours after three police officers were killed Sunday morning in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

“Praying their father and all police officers return home safely,” the department captioned the photo on Facebook and Twitter.

As of Sunday evening, it’s been shared nearly 1,200 times on Facebook and received more than 225 retweets.

“Too many nights I did this for my dad,” Ron and Steph Spratt commented on the IMPD Facebook photo. “I miss him so much. I will continue to pray for everyone else’s mom and dad to come home safely every shift.”

“This has got to stop and stop right now!” another commenter, Cyndi Radford, wrote of the officer shootings. “Our children should not be put through this kind of grief. One would think that we live in a third world country… NOT America. God bless the police and their families.. they are the true heroes.”
