Southwest Airlines glitch causes delays, cancellations

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Hundreds of Southwest Airlines customers are lining up trying to get on a flight.

The problems all started yesterday when the airline reported having problems with several computer systems.

Delays and cancellations piled up for hours after the glitch.

In a snowball effect, the technical delays caused major delays at the Indianapolis International Airport.

For example, some flights were ready to take off when pilots’ shifts ended so passengers had to wait for replacement crews.

A lot of customers say they are annoyed they weren’t notified of the issues. Many of them weren’t aware of the problems before heading to the airport.

Southwest released this statement on their website:

We apologize for our major outage. We are still working to resolve the issues. We know you are disappointed and our People are working hard to restore our systems. If your travel was disrupted, we will be flexible in rebooking you. Thank you for your continued patience.
