Trial set to start for man accused of shooting IMPD officer

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The trial is set to begin for the man accused of shooting an Indianapolis police officer.

Roger Hawkins is accused of shooting at officers back in February as they were responding to a call of gunshots being fired through a nearby home.

One of Hawkins bullets hit officer Mark Reynolds in the arm. He was taken to IU Methodist Hospital with non life-threatening injuries. He successfully underwent surgery for a broken arm and was released.

Swat teams were called out and eventually had to gas the home.

Hawkins is now facing charges for attempted murder and criminal recklessness.
