Stutz Artists Association celebrates 20th year
Artists…. it’s time to celebrate YOU!
The Stutz Artists Association will celebrate the 20th anniversary of its Residency Program with a special exhibition that brings together the art and artists inspired by the city’s longest running grant for a working artists. Coming Back Home: 20th Anniversary of the Stutz Residency Program opens Friday, Aug. 5, as part of the IDADA First Friday Art Tour. The event is free and open to the public. The exhibition will be on view to the public Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. through Aug. 26.
Artists awarded the residency from 1996 to 2015 have been invited to participate in this special exhibition by providing artwork and attending the opening night event. This exhibition will feature 17 artists and includes a wide range of their works-photography, oils, watercolors, sculpture and mobiles. In September, the current 2015-16 artists in residence will host a Gallery exhibition and the new 2016-2017 artists awarded studio space at The Stutz will be announced.

More than 20 artists’ studios at The Stutz also will be open to the public to view and purchase works. Since 1996, the association has offered studio space valued at approximately $6,000 to one to two artists each year. This is one of the largest grants from a local arts organization offered to a working artist in central Indiana. Funds for the program are raised through April’s annual Raymond James Stutz Artists Open House event.

The Stutz Artists Association (SAA) is a nonprofit, volunteer organization of artists working in the historic Stutz Business and Arts Center. The 400,000-square-foot former car factory was renovated in the early 1990s and now houses studios for nearly 90 artists as well as offices for various small to mid-size businesses. The artists of the Stutz comprise one of the most varied and accomplished artist communities in Central Indiana, representing painters of all styles, sculptors, fiber artists, jewelers, photographers, print makers, muralists, furniture makers and many others.About the Raymond James Stutz Art Gallery
The Raymond James Stutz Art Gallery is a nonprofit visual art center created by the SAA. Each month the Gallery presents new exhibitions by Stutz artists as well as other artists that engage, inspire and challenge viewers to think differently about the world. Most exhibitions open with a reception on the first Friday of the month, in conjunction with the IDADA First Friday Art Tour. The Stutz Art Mart, located in the Gallery, offers artwork for sale. The Gallery is open Monday to Friday, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and by appointment.
