Intruders break into couple’s home, pit bull scares them off

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Police said intruders broke into a couple’s home while they were sleeping.

The suspects managed to get almost to their bedroom with a gun, but something stopped them; the couple’s pit bull Queenie.

It happened Wednesday morning around 1:00 a.m. on Baker Drive near 42nd Street and Post Road on the city’s east side.

Cutting through the screen door and prying open the window, the intruders got inside Terry Sanders and his fiance Philecia Taylor’s home.

The intruders headed towards the bedroom, while the couple was fast asleep.

“They eased in and then when they opened up, turned the knob, that’s when the dog started barking,” said Sanders.

Queenie was also inside their bedroom. She continued to bark, but they were in a deep sleep. It wasn’t until they heard the bedroom door slam shut, that they woke up.

“They had the gun through the door like this and Queenie bit their hand or their arm,” Taylor explained. “They dropped the gun and shut the door real quick,” Taylor added.

The couple told police, they got out of bed and found the suspects long gone. The intruders left the front door open and the gun behind, on the bedroom floor.

“It was one bullet in the chamber. No clip and it was a 380 gun,” they explained.

Sanders is troubled by what could’ve happened.

“What were they going to do with that gun after they…was one bullet in it. What were they going to do, shoot me? And then what were they going to do with her?”

That may remain a mystery, but one thing is for certain; Queenie is their hero.

“Queenie. I feel very blessed. Queenie is our hero,” said Taylor.

The suspects were not able to get away with anything. Police have not made any arrests in this case.
