Petition to be delivered to NCAA to ban violent student-athletes

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – More than 157,000 petition signatures will be delivered to the NCAA on Wednesday to ban violent student-athletes.

According to a release, NCAA representatives will accept the petition from sexual assault survivor Brenda Tracy and her son Darius. It will be accepted before the Board of Governors meeting.

The petition comes after Baylor University’s mishandling of sexual assault incidents that included members of the football team.

The petition was started in order for schools to not be relied on to punish athletes who commit the acts. Currently, the decisions are up to athletic conferences and individual athletic departments. They follow a handbook that was created in 2014.

Tracy said nearly 20 years ago, she was raped by four men, three were college football players. She is wanting to change policies that have enabled violence by student-athletes.
