Fountain Square bringing real-life Mario Kart race

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – 24 teams are competing in a real-life Mario Kart race. The Murphy Arts Center parking lot will be turned into a Mario Kart-inspired track.

Fans are asked to head to Fountain Square on Friday, August 12 to watch 24 teams pedal Triad Drift Trikes around the track.

Racers will have to survive real-life obstacles and collect coins as they compete for the Grand Prize and the coveted Mushroom Cup.

Certain spectators will be able to join in on the action by blasting racers with turtle shells (water balloons). The audience will have a big impact on the outcome of the race.

There will also be an infield beer garden in Goose Island. You must be 21 or old to enter.

Admission is free with RSVP on Do317.

Fans of all ages are welcome to attend. There will be multiple positions throughout the race to watch and take part in the action.

If you are interested in entering a team, team registration is $250 per 4-person team. Email jb@do317 for more information.

Race practice is from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, August 12. The race is from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. that same day.
