Police investigating death, suicide attempt at jail
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The Marion County Sheriff’s Office says an inmate was found deceased in his cell in the Marion County Jail on August 14.
According to police, 32-year-old Joseph Defur was found unresponsive at 6:43 p.m. and pronounced dead at 7:13 p.m.
Defur had been incarcerated since his arrest on August 11. He was being held on charges of possession of methamphetamine, and a warrant out of Hancock County for burglary and theft.
A follow-up investigation is being conducted.
Police say there was a suicide attempt at the Marion County Jail this month.
