Date set for Indiana gubernatorial debate on education

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – A debate focusing on education issues has been scheduled for Sept. 27 among the three Indiana gubernatorial candidates.

The nonprofit Indiana Debate Commission announced Tuesday that the first debate involving Democrat John Gregg, Republican Eric Holcomb and Libertarian Rex Bell will be held at Lawrence North High School in Indianapolis.

The commission says the debate will be during school hours as a town hall-style event involving high school students, teachers and administrators. It will be webcast live to schools around the state and be made available later for television broadcasting.

Two televised evening debate among the gubernatorial candidates are being planned for October.

The commission also plans two televised U.S. Senate debates among Democrat Evan Bayh, Republican Todd Young and Libertarian Lucy Brenton. Those dates haven’t been set.
