Juvenile points gun at woman’s face in attempted carjacking, robbery

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Police are trying to track down two juveniles who they say tried to carjack a woman at gunpoint in her driveway.

It happened early Monday morning at the Liberty Creek Subdivision off of 56th Street near Lafayette Road.

The woman spoke to WISH-TV off camera. She says physically she wasn’t injured but was very shaken up. Her young children were inside their home, and she feared the worst. However, her quick actions might’ve saved her life.

Upon entering Liberty Creek South, warning signs greet guests. One reads “Property Protected by Security Patrol.” Drive a few feet to the stop sign and another sign; this time it’s warning of the neighborhood crime watch. Residents say they can never be too safe.

“We had a group of neighbors that used to live there and then our neighbors here are pretty nice, and then the neighbors across the street. We all normally stick in for each other and call each other if we notice anything happening,” said one neighbor, who did not identify himself.

But none of this did anything to deter juveniles, who police say attempted to rob a woman at gunpoint.

“It’s a little disturbing because we’ve been here for over four years and since we’ve been here, we’ve had no problems,” the neighbor said.

Police say the woman was pulling into her driveway when the suspects demanded she get out of her van, pointing a gun at her head. The woman says instead of getting out of her vehicle, she just took off in her van. As she pulled away, she told police that one of the suspects threw his gun at her van. It shattered a back, rear window. Shards of glass littered her street right in front of her home.

“(I’m) a little nervous about it because I have two young kids and a wife myself. But, I guess, we just have to look out more,” he said.

More, because, this crime proves, they truly can never be too safe.

“It’s very eye-opening. We have an alarm system, so that’s part of it. I think I’m about to start to install some cameras here, surrounding the house that I can get us a better view of what’s going on around here,” he said.

The victim says the two suspects used t-shirts to cover their heads, and so she didn’t get a good description. She added that she was so shaken up that she did not notice which direction they went or if they were walking or in a car.

IMPD is asking for the public’s help. If you have any information that could help in this investigation, call Crime Stoppers at 317-262-8477 (TIPS).
