Democrat Shelli Yoder wants ‘slanderous’ ad taken down

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (WISH) – The battle for the congressional seat being vacated by Republican Todd Young has become contentious.

With just a week until Election Day, Democrat Shelli Yoder wants a campaign commercial for Republican Trey Hollingsworth taken off the air.

The Republican National Congressional Committee ad accuses Yoder of voting for 25 tax increases while serving on the Monroe County Council.

In a letter sent to TV station general managers, it asks them to remove the ad from air.

A lawyer hired by the campaign called the ad “slanderous” and said she voted for just one tax increase.

The ad is just part of the outside help coming in for the Hollingsworth campaign.  Speaker of the House Paul Ryan campaigned for Hollingsworth in Sellersburg Tuesday.

Last week Hollingsworth announced that he was spending $2 million of his own money on the race.

The Yoder campaign said internal polls showed the race to be a tie.
