WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — The West Lafayette street commissioner has resigned, after being arrested for driving under the influence.

Doug Payne, 42, had an accident in the roundabout at Yeager Road and Cumberland Avenue Friday night.

West Lafayette Mayor John Dennis told 24-Hour News 8’s sister station, WLFI, that Payne was in a personal vehicle and off-duty at the time of the wreck.

Dennis said Payne hit a pole and rolled out of the roundabout.

Payne submitted his resignation to Dennis on Monday.
