Police search for suspects after two early morning east side homicides

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Two people are dead after two unrelated incidents. IMPD is now trying to track down the killers.

The first happened at the Teal Run Apartments off Mitthoefer Road near 21st Street. Around 1:30 Friday morning police found an 18-year old dead inside his car. They said he had been shot at least one time. Investigators aren’t sure what led up to the shooting. Neighbors, however, said it’s a story they’ve heard one too many times.

Paul  Anderson has a “KEEP OUT” sign hanging from his fence, but he said it does nothing to deter crime.

“I noticed I was leaking in the kitchen. I have a bullet hole in my roof that I just took and patched yesterday. The bullet hole was still there,” he said.

So, when Anderson heard about the young man gunned down at the apartments right across from his home, he wasn’t surprised.

“It’s kind of getting like that all around. But, my main one is this one right here. That’s where it seems like it had the most,” he said.

Police aren’t sure why the 18-year old was at the apartment community, but they don’t believe he lived there.

“It’s just a shame that you’re afraid to let your kids come out in the yard cause you never know who is over there and who’s going to start the shooting,” said Anderson.

But the killings didn’t end there. A few hours later, around 3:30 a.m., off East Washington Street near Oriental Street, a passerby found a homeless woman dead. Police determined she had been stabbed.

“She was a nice lady. She stayed to herself. She just needed help getting back on her feet,” said a friend who only wanted to be identified as Twin.

Police said there was some kind of argument prior to the suspect stabbing her. She had been wrapped in a blanket and placed off to the side of the parking lot when police found her.

“Hopefully every day people turn to God because everyday this world is turning to hell,” said Twin.

Police have not released the identities of either victim pending family notification. They’re asking for your help in locating the suspects. If you have any information that could help, call Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS. There is a $1,000 reward and you can remain anonymous.
