Rain, snow mix expected Sunday

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Get ready for a taste of winter weather for portions of central Indiana, Sunday.

A large system moving through the Midwest will move into central Indiana this afternoon, squeezing out both rain and snow showers across the area.  For most, it will be a chilly rain as temperatures hover in the upper 30s and lower 40s.  Some areas northwest of Indianapolis around Lafayette up to Kokomo will see a back and forth between rain and snow, with a changeover to all snow taking place close to sunset this evening.

Areas of northwest central Indiana could see up to 1” of snowfall accumulation – mainly on grassy surfaces – before the system moves out later tonight.  With a few decent bursts of snowfall possible, there could be some brief slushy roads in northwestern portions of the state.

For much of central Indiana, including the Indianapolis metro, no snow accumulation is expected.
