INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Police are looking for the person who broke into a UPS location.
It happened on Holt Road near Minnesota Street on the city’s west side. The location handles freight, so no holiday packages were taken.
This is not the traditional story of “How the Grinch Stole Christmas,” but perhaps just as unfortunate.
“This is the season to be giving and happy and joyful and it just doesn’t stop with people that are trying to commit crimes. It’s not right,” said Marcel Gotcher, who lives not far from the scene.
Police say a real-life “Grinch” broke into the UPS location. The suspect cut the locks on three of the semi-trailers.
“I am completely flabbergasted to hear that. That’s crazy,” said Brandi Calvert who also lives near the scene.
“I just saw something on the news last night about UPS leaving them on the doorsteps,” Gotcher added. “Now they’re breaking into UPS offices?”
According to a police report, the lock to the front gate was missing. However, the on-duty manager isn’t sure how the suspect got into the building because the doors were locked. It appears the suspect went through the trailers and decided against taking anything from two of them. But the burglar stopped at the third one containing alcohol. The suspect went through at least one skid containing liquor, although without checking the inventory, they’re not sure exactly how much was stolen.
“I don’t know what it’s gotten to and right here at the Christmas season. It’s terrible,” said Gotcher.
They’re hopeful that police will catch up with this “Grinch.”
“I’m sure that they will find them. They usually do. They’ll mess up somehow, unfortunately,” said Gotcher.
One of the drivers according to police, may have had photos of a suspicious truck that was seen in the area. That information will be passed on to police.
