Monumental Marathon to be part of a woman’s weight loss journey

AVON, Ind. (WISH) – Three years ago this week, an Avon woman began a weight loss journey.

So far, Tiffany Alsabrook has lost 260 pounds.

“It’s a head game every day. I wake up every morning thinking about what is it that I’m going to do today to keep my weight off and to keep going,” Alsabrook said.

Each step on a treadmill is one away from Tiffany Alsabrook’s past. Three years ago, her life was different.

“My daily life three years ago was home, work, couch, bed,” she said.

At 41 years old, she weighed 469 pounds. A knee injury required surgery, but her doctor wouldn’t perform it due to the risk of anesthesia. She had bariatric surgery, but that’s not all that it took.

“I was in love with food, but it would never love me back, and I needed to remember that,” Alsabrook said.

She changed her diet and has since walked two half-marathons and recently completed her first sprint triathlon.

“Now I eat to live, I don’t live to eat,” Alsabrook said. “I didn’t get up from almost 500 pounds and go walk a half-marathon. I walked around the block.”

Alsabrook will walk the half Indianapolis Monumental Marathon Saturday. She said it took her one hour to walk a mile last year, and now she can walk three in 45 minutes.
