Man fires shot at officers, taken into custody following SWAT standoff

DEARBORN COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) — One man is in custody following a five-hour standoff where he fired a shot at officers.

The incident began just after 2 p.m. Friday evening in the 5700 block of Dutch Hollow Road when officers went to the residence to perform a welfare check.

Upon arrival, officers discovered the occupant of the home, 32-year-old Micheal Smith, was wanted on a probation violation warrant.

Smith fired a shot at officers after they attempted to make contact with him through the front door. Officers then backed away from the home and requested backup.

Smith was taken into custody shortly after 7 p.m. when SWAT officials entered the home and took him into custody.

No officers were injured in the incident.

The investigation remains ongoing.
