Crews from INDOT, Indy prepare for Saturday snowstorm

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The storm heading toward central Indiana is expected to be a real winter nightmare.

Claire Rice with Indianapolis Power and Light told News 8 that IPL would have crews on standby to deal with the storm.

“There could be power outages due to wind. I think most of the substained wind around 25-30 miles an hour with wind gust exceeding 40 miles an hour, so that always has the potential to impact our powerlines,” said Rice.

The Indianapolis Department of Public Works and the Indiana Department of Transportation are not pretreating roads this time with a brine solution. The storm is expected to deliver heavy, wet snow or rain at first, making the brine solution almost useless.

The Indianapolis Department of Public Works is bringing in drivers at 11 p.m. Friday night. Those drivers will work in shifts around the clock with 80 trucks until the snow is cleared.

INDOT will have drivers reporting early Saturday morning with the expectation of a long weekend of work possible..
