Anderson High School basketball coach arrested for OWI

ANDERSON, Ind. (WISH) — An Anderson high school coach is on leave after he was arrested for driving drunk.

Phillip Washington was taken into custody Saturday morning and later released on bond. He faces a preliminary charge of operating while intoxicated, according to the Madison County Sheriff’s Department.

Washington is the head boys’ basketball coach at Anderson High School.

The district’s assistant superintendent released a statement saying Washington has been placed on administrative leave while an internal investigation is underway..

Earlier this year, Washington was suspended as coach of the Crispus Attucks High School boys’ basketball team for allowing students to join the basketball team prior to them transferring from a different school.
