VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) – A late Friday evening traffic stop in Vigo County lead to a drug arrest.
According to Indiana State Police, a 2006 silver Chevy Malibu, driven by 19-year-old Vaughn Dumas, was in the westbound turn lane to head southbound on 6th Street in Terre Haute around 11:30 p.m.
However, police said that instead of turning, when the light changed to green, the Malibu continued traveling westbound and nearly sideswiped an ISP vehicle.
After the vehicle was stopped, the ISP trooper on scene detected a strong smell of burnt marijuana coming from the car. Through a search of the vehicle, alcoholic beverages, less than two grams of what was suspected to be marijuana and assorted paraphernalia was discovered.
Dumas was arrested and faces preliminary charges for operating a vehicle while intoxicated, possession of marijuana, possession of paraphernalia and possession of alcohol by a minor.
The passenger in the vehicle, 19-year-old Nicholas Freeman, was cited and then released for possession of paraphernalia, possession of alcohol by a minor and minor consumption of alcohol.
