1 dead after being hit by vehicle on city’s west side, driver arrested for DUI

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A male is dead after a vehicle crash involving a pedestrian on the west side of Indianapolis, police say.
Investigators did not immediately release the identity of the male who died.
Just after 11 p.m. Saturday, officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department responded to a report of a vehicle crash involving a pedestrian in the area of Kessler Boulevard North Drive and West 30th Street.
When officers arrived at the scene, they located one person dead on the scene.
Through their preliminary investigation, officers learned that the male was walking in the middle of the street in the 2800 block of Kessler Boulevard. A witness told police that they saw the male walking on Kessler, causing the witness to swerve to miss hitting them.
At that time, a gray Dodge Durango hit the man.
The driver remained on scene and was taken to Eskenazi Hospital for a blood draw. The driver was later arrested for DUI.
The name of the driver has not been released yet.
This hit-and-run makes the first incident where a person was killed in a crash on Saturday night. The second occurred around 11:30 p.m. in the area of Kelly Street and Lynhurst Drive on the southwest side.
