22-year-old dies in shooting on southeast side

Update: The Marion County coroner identified the victim on Monday as 22-year-old David Smith. No autopsy information was available Monday. 

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Police are investigating a fatal shooting on the city’s southeast side, the second homicide investigation in the city in less than 12 hours. 

Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were called to the 3200 block of South Oxford Street, just south of Troy Avenue near Rural Street, around 5 p.m. Sunday on a report of a person shot. 

The person was initially reported in critical condition but later died, Officer Genae Cook with IMPD confirmed. 

Police have not released any suspect information.

Around 7:30 a.m. Sunday, officers responded to a call to check the welfare of a person in the 2500 block of North Lasalle Street, east of Rural Street. A man was found beside a running vehicle suffering trauma to his body and was pronounced dead at the scene.
