Fatal crash on State Road 9 in Shelby County
UPDATE: Shelby County Sheriff’s department has identified the two drivers involved. The driver of a semitractor-trailer was 65-year-old Gary Jaquess, while the driver of a Jeep Liberty was 23-year-old Johnathan May.
Witnesses claim that the Jeep Liberty crossed the center line for an unknown reason and collided head on with Jaquess.
May died at the scene, while Jaquess and a passenger, Alexis Eversole, 22, was sent to the IU Health Methodist Hospital emergency room for treatment.
The investigation on Tuesday remained ongoing.
FLAT ROCK, Ind. (WISH) — A fatal crash happened Monday on State Road 9 in southern Shelby County, the sheriff’s department says.
The crash happened in the 10000 block of South State Road 9. That’s in a rural area north of the intersection with County Road 1100 South. It’s about a 4-mile drive east of the unincorporated community of Flat Rock.
A viewer’s photo from the crash scene showed first responders working to rescue someone in the mangled vehicle. However, authorities did not immediately say whether anyone survived the crash.
Maj. Chris Holder said in a news release issued just after 3:30 p.m. Monday that additional information about the crash was not immediately available.
The WISHTV.com traffic map showed southbound lanes were affected.
