North Carolina middle schooler drives off with bus

HIGH POINT, N.C. (AP) — Police in North Carolina say a middle school student stole an activity bus and took it on an hour-long joyride.

High Point police tell news outlets the student took the bus from a parking site next to Andrews High School on Tuesday morning. It’s unclear how he managed to drive away with the bus.

A mechanic notified the district when he couldn’t find the bus for scheduled maintenance. Guilford County Schools Transportation Director Jeff Harris says the bus was gone for an hour, and was tracked down using newly installed GPS technology. He says no one was injured and no property was damaged.

High Point police say the boy is going through the “juvenile process.” He’s been charged with larceny, trespassing and resisting arrest. His age hasn’t been released.
