First-term City-County councilor resigns due to work, marriage matters

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A Republican serving his first term on the City-County Council on Wednesday announced his resignation. 

Scott Kreider said in a letter to Marion County Clerk Myla Eldridge that “professional endeavors” at his law firm and “forthcoming nuptials” are the causes. He also has plans to relocate outside his south side district, the letter said. 

Kreider serves District 23, which extends a mile on both side of South Meridian Street south of Thompson Road and includes a larger stretch on both sides of Meridian along County Line Road. 

He is a partner at the law firm of Kreider McNevin Schiff. He formerly served on the Perry Township Advisory Board and is president of the township’s GOP club. 

Kreider’s letter said he had served for 33 months. His resignation will be effective Friday.

Greg Lannan, executive director of the Marion County Republican Central Committee, issued this statement from Indiana Republican Chairman Jim Merritt:

I want to thank Scott Kreider for the work he has done while on the City-County Council. His efforts made District 23 and our County a better place. Scott’s intelligence, diligence and policy over politics approach will be missed. We wish Scott the best of luck in all of his future endeavors. I will call a caucus within the next 30 days to fill the vacancy.
