IMPD: Man dies, another critically injured in northeast side crash

UPDATE: The man who died in a crash March 22 at East 46th Street and Emerson Avenue was 56-year-old Kevin Little, the Marion County Coroner said Monday.

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Indianapolis police are investigating a fatal crash early Friday morning on the city’s northeast side that killed a man and left another injured.

Indianapolis Police Department officers responded to a report of a serious injury crash at the intersection of 46th Street and Emerson Avenue just after 5 a.m.

Police say the crash involved a sedan and a pickup truck. IMPD Sgt. Anthony Patterson told News 8 that the pickup truck was speeding eastbound on Emerson when a sedan traveling south struck the truck on its side.

IMPD says the driver of the sedan was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the pickup truck was taken to the hospital with “critical condition non-life-threatening injuries.”

Patterson says it’s too early to know who had the green light and that the cause of the crash is unclear. He also could not confirm if alcohol was a factor in the crash.

A traffic pole at the scene was damaged. Utility crews spent several hours making repairs.

Traffic will be impacted for several hours until the investigation is complete. Drivers were asked to seek an alternate route.
