Girl injured in shooting at apartment complex off East 38th Street

Child shot at 38th Street and Sherman Drive

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A 5-year-old girl was stable after a Wednesday afternoon shooting at apartments on the city’s northeast side, police say.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers responded just after 4:15 p.m. Wednesday to a report of a person shot in the 3400 block of Blue Spruce Lane. That is located at The Villages At Mill Crossing apartments near the intersection of East 38th Street and North Sherman Drive.

The girl was at Riley Hospital for Children, police say. They don’t know how she was shot, and investigators were talking with her family. Investigators also did not immediately know if the girl was shot inside an apartment or elsewhere.

A 13-year-old boy died on Blue Spruce Lane in November. IMPD also investigated that case.
