INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Fire crews responded to a large fire Saturday afternoon at a business on the city’s west side.

The Wayne Township Department and several area fire departments were called to 1300 N Mickley Ave on a report of a large scrappy yard fire at 3:33 p.m. That is located at Zore’s Inc., a multi-division towing, wrecker service, scrap metal recycling, and auto salvage company, according to its website.

Firefighters say smoke from the fire could be seen from as far away as Johnson County and caused traffic “congestion” for a few blocks. Crews used over 3,500 feet of supply hoses from various fire hydrants around the recycling center to put out the fire.

“Operators who work for Zore’s Salvage assisted firefighters with removing heavy debris from the scrape pile to help gain access to the seat of the fire,” said the Wayne Township Fire Department.

It took fire crews two hours to bring the fire under control.

According to a release, no one was injured and the Marion County Health Department assisted in monitoring the air and water surrounding the salvage yard.

Information on what caused the fire was not immediately known.
