Police: Truck lunges forward, kills pedestrian

GREENFIELD, Ind. (WISH) — An Indianapolis man is dead and a woman is in the hospital after both were struck by a box truck used for paper shredding in the parking lot of a Community Health Network office in Greenfield, according to police.

Greenfield Police Department officers responded to a personal injury crash in the parking lot of the Community Health Network office, 740 W. Green Meadows Drive around 10 a.m.

The man died at the scene, and the woman was taken to an Indianapolis hospital for further treatment. Police did not provide the woman’s condition.

Preliminary investigation revealed a box truck, owned and operated by Shred-it, was being operated by an employee of the company at the time of the crash.

The employee was outside the truck shredding documents, when the truck lunged forward, hitting a parked vehicle, the man and woman, and another parked vehicle before stopping.

The employee fully cooperated with the investigators and submitted a blood test, which is the protocol for an accident resulting in serious death or injury.
