IMPD: Man dies in hospital after shooting on near east side on 10th, Rural streets

UPDATE: Marion County Coroner’s Office on Friday identified the person shot and killed as 45-year-old Leon Motley. His death was ruled a homicide.

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A man critically injured in a shooting near a gas station on the near east side Wednesday morning died in a hospital from his injuries, Indianapolis police say.

The man’s name and age haven’t been released.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers were called to the intersection of East 10th and North Rural streets around 4:30 a.m. on a report of a person shot.

That is a business intersection on the near east side near a Marathon gas station.

When they arrived, they found the man suffering a gunshot wound. He was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition, where he later died.

Police did not give an update on potential suspects. They said IMPD homicide detectives and the Marion County Forensics Unit would be on the scene to investigate.
