INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A man was critically injured in a shooting on the city’s near west side Sunday, police say.

At 8 p.m. Sunday, officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were dispatched to the 1600 block of West Vermont Street on a report of a person shot. That is a residential area on the city’s near west side. Dispatchers were told by the caller that her son shot her ex-boyfriend. When officers arrived to the scene, they found an adult male in critical condition with gunshot wound injuries.

The injured man was taken to Eskenazi Hospital in critical condition.

Another man, who investigators believe might be the suspect, cut himself crawling out of a window. Investigators are unsure why he was crawling out of a window. He was taken to Eskenazi Hospital in stable condition and taken in custody. Investigators also recovered a handgun from the scene of the incident. Witnesses in the area are cooperating with officers.

Investigators ask that anyone with information regarding this incident contact IMPD detectives at 317-327-3475.
