Police activity snarls traffic on I-74 at I-465 on Indy’s southeast side

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — All lanes of I-74 and northbound I-465 on the city’s southeast side reopened around 9 a.m. Thursday, ending a three-hour closure that caused major backups during the morning rush.

Just before 6 a.m., firefighters and police were called to a report of a pedestrian on the I-74/Southeastern Avenue overpass above I-465.

To ensure the safety of everyone involved, police shut down I-74 in both directions and closed all lanes of northbound I-465.

The unexpected closures caused backups on I-465, including a major traffic jam that at one point stretched all the way to the I-65 interchange on the city’s south side.

Police have not provided any additional information about the incident.
