25-year-old dies, 2 others hurt in shooting on north side

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – One of three people with gunshot wounds has died after the trio walked into a north-side hospital early Tuesday, police said.

David Gibbs, 25, died from his wounds, the Marion County Coroner’s Office said Tuesday afternoon.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers were sent about 12:30 a.m. to St. Vincent Indianapolis Hospital, 2001 W. 86th St., on a report of three gunshot wound victims.

Gibbs died at the hospital. Another victim was in critical condition and the other was stable.

According to IMPD, the shooting happened near the intersection of West 86th Street and Ditch Road. Investigators said the gunshots rang out in the middle of the street.

Businesses across the street on 86th were damaged in the crossfire, but no one else was injured.

Police said they did not have any suspects in the case Tuesday morning, but were hopeful to get details of the incident from the two surviving victims.

Police also were working to identify suspects in the other vehicle with surveillance video from a Village Pantry convenience store and gas station on 86th Street.
