2 infant girls kidnapped in car theft rescued after being left on roadside

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — This story has been updated to include further information from IMPD.

An Indianapolis resident has been dubbed a “hero” by police after rescuing two infant girls abandoned in their car seats following a car theft and kidnapping Monday morning.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department first announced the kidnapping and car theft on X around 11:30 a.m.

The vehicle, a 2013 Hyundai Sonata, was last seen in the 1800 block of Gimber Street with the girls, a 4- and 5-month-old, in the back seat.

Sometime later, the resident found the girls in the South Riley Street area, approximately 10 minutes from where the car was taken. They had been dumped on the roadside in their car seats.

The resident brought the girls inside for warmth, and they were safely reunited with the parents.

IMPD says the stolen vehicle has been located and is being processed.

The vehicle was described as a silver 2013 Hyundai Sonata with the license plate “364CMU”. It also has a large sticker on the back window reading “IN LOVING MEMORY OF COURTNEY NICOLE”.
