Man dead after police shooting on city’s west side

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — At least one person was shot and killed in a police shooting Thursday afternoon on Indy’s west side.

Online police reports show the shooting incident happened just after 2 p.m.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers were dispatched to the 300 block of South Warman Avenue near the intersection of Washington Street and Belmont Avenue to investigate a person shot.

Police say they found a female with gunshot wounds. While canvasing the area searching for a suspect, police say they encountered a man with a machete. Police say at some point a police shooting occurred.

The suspect was transported to a local hospital in critical condition, where he later died according to police.
