3 dead, including 15-year-old, in deadly Sunday
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Six people were shot in Indianapolis on Sunday, and three of them were killed.
One of them was a 15-year-old boy.
The first shooting happened just after midnight at Hoot Package Liquor Store after an altercation between a man, the liquor store staff and a security guard, according to IMPD. Police say the man who was shot and the security guard were involved in a fight when the security guard fired his weapon at the victim.
The third shooting happened about 6 a.m. near the intersection of 30th Street and Eastern Avenue. Police say 60-year-old Derann Alfonzo was fatally shot. Helen Lane, 84, was injured in the shooting. Both victims are from Indianapolis, and no suspect information has been released.
The next shooting happened on the city’s southeast side at about 7:30 a.m. This is where the 15-year-old was killed.
And then at 4:30 p.m. a man was found dead in a car in the 1900 block of Dearborn Street.
Leaders with the Indianapolis Ten Point Coalition say this will continue to happen until people say they won’t tolerate this in their neighborhoods.
“I think it’s disgusting, this should never happen,” said Bill Harless, after hearing that a teenager was killed in his neighborhood.
And this is before they knew all the details.
“How did it happen? When did it happen? What led it to happen? Like, I don’t know,” said Mackenzie Judd, who identified herself as the girlfriend of the 15 year old’s brother.
IMPD identified him as Roshun Johnson. They say he lured his alleged killer to this house. They say Johnson pulled a gun and roughed up his assailant. That’s when they say the assailant fought back, shot Johnson, ran away and called police himself.
John Shields lives in the neighborhood. His wife heard the shots
“About 7:30 a.m. she (his wife) heard the pop pop and our granddaughter was spending the night,” said Shields. “So she got up concerned about her because they were doing a lot of foul language and all that stuff.”
Neighbors say the man who lives in the home takes in at-risk youth and tries to change their lives around.
IMPD says at the time of the shooting six teenagers were at the house. It’s not known how many of them live here.
When officers were called to that scene they were already responding to another shooting across town.
A man and an elderly woman were shot inside a home. The man died at the scene.
And then investigators were out again at about 4:30 Sunday afternoon
“Officers were dispatched to 1900 block of North Dearborn at approximately 4:30 p.m. They located an adult male, adult female,” said Shane Foley of IMPD.
They were found shot in a car.
IMPD says they drove to Dearborn Street from another location.
The Indianapolis Ten Point Coalition responded to all of the day’s shootings. They say we all can prevent these types of scenes.
“We’re out here and we’re doing the best we can, but the community can help out of they came out and speak up. If you see something say something, it helps out,” said Rev. James Black.
No one has been arrested in any of these cases.
With the shooting of the 15-year-old, the suspect turned himself in, was questioned and released.
If you know anything about any of these incidents you’re asked to call Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS.
