Pastor, radio host Michael Jones passes away

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Pastor Michael Jones of Progressive Baptist Church passed away Tuesday morning.

1310 AM The Light confirmed Jones passing in a Facebook post Tuesday afternoon. In March, Jones filled the former time slot of of the late Amos Brown III, from 1-3 p.m., during the week.

On Tuesday his producer, Liz Dixson, hosted the show in his place.

She took calls for three hours from listeners who wanted to honor his memory.

“We had to give people an opportunity to grieve and be able to say what they wanted to say about the impact that Michael Jones has had in such a short amount of time,” she said.

Jones hosted the show called “Community Connection.” In addition to anchoring the show, Jones was the pastor of Progressive Baptist Church. The Harvard University graduate received his degree economics in 1986, and he would go on to receive his Masters of Divinity from the Christian Theological Seminary.

Jones is the son of the late Sam Jones, a civil rights leader, who was the former President of the Indianapolis Urban League.

Over the years Pastor Jones was very vocal on social and injustice issues in Indianapolis and across the country.
