Suspect wanted for attempted murder in shooting of officer arrested
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department have arrested a man wanted for attempted murder.
31-year-old Michael Swafford, who was wanted on an attempted murder warrant for the shooting of an IMPD officer, has been taken into custody.
Swafford was arrested at a gas station in the 3500 block of Kentucky Avenue Saturday night by detectives with IMPD’s Violent Crimes and Gang Unit.
Swafford was wanted for the March 8 shootout in which IMPD officer Christopher Maher, who was slightly injured.
While he was taken into custody Saturday night, officers discovered a .50 caliber handgun and narcotics.
He now faces preliminary charges of possession of marijuana and carrying a handgun without a license with a prior conviction.
