Student farm, intramural field in path of progress at Purdue

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) – A student-run farm at and Purdue University intramural fields that lie in the path of progress could find themselves on the move.

The sites, along with gardens and a shopping center, are located within the scope of a planned aerospace technology park and a State Street Master Plan that’s designed to promote economic development.

Development in the areas represents a financial opportunity for the university and the city. But the Journal & Courier reports university leaders are wrestling with whether the benefits outweigh the drawbacks of moving student-centric spaces farther from campus.

Purdue Research Foundation CEO Dan Hasler says a majority of the tech park won’t be developed anytime soon and that the foundation doesn’t have prospective buyers for the farm site.
