Correctional officer arrested for trafficking
MIAMI COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) – A Miami County Correctional Facility officer was arrested for alleged drug trafficking to inmates in the facility.
Correctional Officer Brandon Wicker, 30, of Walton, Ind., was arrested Wednesday morning following a criminal investigation by Indiana State Police and the Indiana Department of Correction Internal Affairs. Arresting officers said Wicker surrendered without incident.
Wicker was served an arrest warrant out of Miami County for allegedly dealing methamphetamine, trafficking with an inmate and conspiracy to commit dealing of a controlled substance.
Wicker was taken to the Miami County Jail but has since posted bond.
During a routine search of the correctional facility in March, investigators said, officers discovered evidence of illegal narcotics and other contraband. They found these items were being smuggled into the prison, and it was later revealed that Wicker was bringing the items inside.
Wicker’s pickup truck and his Cass County home were searched after the arrest. Officers allegedly found prescription medication, synthetic marijuana and other items that Wicker was supposedly preparing to smuggle into the prison. They also said they found methamphetamine already inside the facility.
Indiana State Police said Wicker was believed to have been paid by a third party outside the prison to bring in the items.
