One dead, one seriously hurt in Columbus crash

COLUMBUS, Ind. (WISH) – Police say one person is dead and another is in critical condition after a Columbus crash sent a car into a tree.

Just after 1 a.m. on Saturday morning, Columbus police responded to a car accident the 66.5-mile marker of I-65.

When police arrived, they found a 2012 Chrysler sedan that had left the road and hit a nearby tree.

The driver, identified Derek J. Miller, 24, of Columbus, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The passenger, Tyler J. Shadwick, 22, of Columbus, was taken by Lifeline helicopter to Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital, where he has been reported in critical condition.

Police are still investigating the cause of the accident.
